Hola!

Anyone have any experience here (SC, Guaymas, HMO) getting a shingles vaccine shot?

I got my J&J vaccine 3 weeks ago at the VA in Tucson and they told me then I should get the shingles shot but I had to wait two weeks. Don't like driving up there again just to get a shot, so looking for any info on price and availability here.

Thanks,

Monty

OK - here's the dope on SHINGRIX in Mexico !! IT IS NOT.

I did not ask about the old 1 shot 40-50% useless ineffective vaccine that I got years ago in LA.

This is the newer 2 shot most effective vaccine for shingles - in Mexico the med name for shingles is "Herpes Zoster"

Neither appears to be available here.

I checked with Fernanda at BF in SC, and also asked at Guad Pharm on Serdan near Tufesa - both looked in their computers and said it's not available in Mexico.

So I went to my strong plan - the derm Dr. Castro in Gym and a CIMA Dr in Hmo- both said not avail in Mex. That's 4 out of 4.

The issue for us is we're Can. and it's not free in BC - 2 x $200 each - and you need a 2-3 but less than 6 mo time between the shots. We're not spending 3-6 mos waiting there in forest fires.

So maybe drive up to Nog, AZ twice.
US drugstores say you do need a script - or maybe ??

I just talked to a woman in the pharmacy at the Nogales Walgreens, who said they have the vaccine, no appointment is necessary, just arrive when the pharmacy is open, cost before insurance is $190 USD.  Yes, 2 doses.

My wife and I had single shots in a Walgreens about 3 years ago. I was $125 if I remember correctly.

I got a shingles shot from the medical clinic across from Ley supermarket about a year ago. I do not remember how much it was, but it was not cheap, though less, then 200 I believe.

Ole - if you only got a single shot - you got the old vaccine - the low effectivity shot. This is from the Russian "doctor" ?

Yes, it was the old one. The new vaccine is not available in Mexico yet.
By the way that Russian "Doctor" is certified in the US, Russia and Mexico and he is the best physician I have ever seen!
