Thanks for the update,I was about to post about this. Mexico City is beginning to vaccinate 40+ ages this week. as soon as I get info on our area will be glad to share.

If you are above ages ranges called you can still show up and will get vaccinated.

Over 30 million doses has been distributed in Mexico as of this date, still way to go but in the past days we are almost reaching 800,000 vaccinations per day. Half of the doses distributed are Pfizer followed by Cansino and others. AstraZeneca , which was the main vaccine to be used in Mexico is very slow in the distribution, only this week the Toluca plant began to release doses to Mexico and Latin America.

Astra Zeneca was used last week on two friends of mine in Empalme.

Thats very good news on the 30 m dosis'. Hope they keep pushing as Mexico is still the third most infectious area of the world if you can believe the numbers that are being published on the internet

A large lot of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived this week in Sonora to vaccinate pop 40+ in Agua Prieta, Nogales, Plutarco Elías Calles, Puerto Peñasco and San Luis Río Colorado starting tomorrow.

We anticipate vaccination in Guaymas - Empalme may start the following week with AstraZeneca.

2nd Pfizer Doses for pop 50+ ages may also start before the Third week of June.

A number of news sites post only total infections and deaths.  Not very useful alone.  Mexico has had over 20 weeks of declining infection rates and appears to be leveling off.  Tracking 7 day averages of new infections is a much more useful statistic.  Or, the prevalence - like 1 in 1200 people currently have the disease.

The USA has been declining, but now has leveled off with the Delta variant ascending.  The Delta variant, first identified in India, is doubling its percentage every 2 weeks.

Canada continues to have declining infection rates.

The Delta variant is the reason the UK had to delay the next opening stage for at least 4 weeks.  It is 93% of the new infections there.  A Scotland University estimates that the Delta variant is 84% more likely to require hospitalization.  A China study puts that at more than 50% more likely to require hospitalization.  It is *much* more transmissible.  People who are infected with the Delta variant have a higher viral load.  Unfortunately, the early symptoms in younger people present similar to the common cold.  They do not know that they have Covid-19 and thus spread it unknowingly.

Here is that study of the Delta variant from Scotland. Higher probability of hospitalization (significant) and lower vaccine efficacy.

SARS-CoV-2 infections caused by the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of concern were at increased risk of hospitalization (HR=1.9) compared to the B.1.1.7 (Alpha) variant after adjusting for demographics, temporal trends, and comorbidities, according to an analysis of 19,543 confirmed infections and 377 hospitalizations in Scotland from April 1 to June 6, 2021. Considering the whole population cohort, estimated vaccine effectiveness 14 days after the second dose against infection was reduced against B.1.617.2 (Delta) compared to B.1.1.7 (Alpha) for the Pfizer-BioNTech (92% vs 79%) and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine (73% vs 60%).
