Technically, the shrimp season is SUPPOSED to be over. Finding unfrozen blues at this time would be impossible to find, unless they are being farmed.

Happen that just today we decided to venture toward Guaymas 1st time in a couple months. About 11:30AM we pulled into Empalme, made the left at the old train engine and stopped at about the 3rd stand on the right, blue sign, Claudias. We've been there many times. She has been there about 25 years and her husband 20 years. He was there today with 2 other helper/fishermen. I bought 2 kilos big blues and a kilo of fresh cabrilla. I had them peel and devein the two kilos for 20 pesos. Pure magicians with a sharp knife. I asked him while he was cleaning and he said they were taken from around Kino Bay so not farmed at Guasimas I guess. I told him I didn't think it was season and the pangas around San Carlos were not supposed to be fishing. You can see a couple of shrimp boats/sardineros going by out there daily, how I don't know. He didn't comment on not fishing but told me the government shuts down the season when the shrimp decrease in volume and reopen it when they determine there are full size grown shrimp again. Right or wrong, I don't know. Ron  Late season prices but very fresh. Ron

According to this article, the Sept -Jan 2020 harvest was 994 tones, or less than 1/2 what was taken in the lagoons and open sea in 2018.
