We got a TIP from Dallas, TX Aduana on our truck and utility trailer to move to San Carlos, Mexico, crossed at Nogales, Arizona. This is in the free zone but we still chose to get one because we wanted the option to be able to travel freely as desired. We want to turn in the entire TIP and get a refund (we are within the exp date) next month which will be done at the Nogales border. My question is do we absolutely HAVE to bring the actual TRAILER with us or just the registration/title info of it ? We don’t want to bring the trailer with since we’re continuing to head north and visit the states. Our plan is to sell the trailer in the spring to another gringo in San Carlos. Please I am looking for people who have experienced returning their TIP on a TRAILER or other first hand experience with this. Thank you.

When I did it yes you have to bring trailer with you. But it has been a few years since I did that. You could always go to K98 and ask.

You have to bring the trailer. It is not legal to sell the trailer in Mexico.

I get one for our bikes and truck. They check all the VINs on the bikes when turning in the TIP.

Trying to get a refund on a permit in Mexico is a new one on me. Sort of in the realm of teaching pigs to fly.

They take a $400-500 deposit so you don't sell the vehicle.

I appreciate the advice from some, but not the insults from others. The point of the post was to confirm the right way. 👍🏼

Mountain WAS trying to learn how to do the right thing!  Why is it necessary for many on this board and the other one to be complete jerks to people who just want an answer to an innocent question?  Think about it! Did you detect anything whatsoever in Mountain's question that might lead anyone to believe she/he was trying to get over on the rules?!

I find it affirming that offence was taken... but Mountain did ask the question... 4 or 5 months after buying the permit to bring both items down...now stating that "He's selling it to another person in Mexico. When purchasing PERMIT he was told BOTH had to return...and i believe he got the message when told to pay $400.00 or more , and his memory would not forget that in just 4/5 months... He was begging for a way out of something he was already aware of...This is not spite...this is being committed to being a good, law abiding member of a Host Country...Please don't spoil it for the rest of us down here... Sorry if you take offense to "Doing the right thing"

Some of you are killing me here. You’re jumping to these crazy conclusions. This is a 2 yr old utility trailer valued at $1200 US.  My intention was not to dump it anywhere, only to find a new home for it for someone who can continue using it. I will rehome it in the US now that it may be illegal to sell it here in SC to another gringo. Thanks again for those who are helpful and not so much for those who give strange and offensive comments when I am only asking for help or advice for a very specific situation, not uncalled for judgement. Peace out. ✌🏼
