Saw this article this morning in El Guaymense.  I used Google translate but have included the Spanish:

With an investment of 3 million 739 thousand 996 pesos, the City Council of Guaymas begins the rehabilitation and reconstruction works of the main square of San Carlos.

The Director of Urban Infrastructure, Jaime Agruel Robles, indicated that this is a coordinated work with the Secretariat of Federal Tourism, Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development through the Rescate de Espacios Públicos program. This project consists of the restoration of neighboring facades, walkways of concrete, a central kiosk, bust of Don Rafael Caballero, source of three bodies, rehabilitation of tourist attention module, and planters; in an area of 2 thousand 069.00 square meters.

The plaza located on Boulevard Manlio Fabio Beltrones, on the corner of Gabriel Estrada Boulevard, in the area of San Carlos Marina, will include urban equipment such as solar street lighting, architectural lighting, benches with backrest. In addition trash sorting deposits, ramps for people with disabilities, bus stop and rehabilitation of existing parking.

The mayor Lorenzo de Cima, said that this work will integrate the city within the program of "Magic Towns" and will benefit more than 15 thousand inhabitants.

What, no trees?

I guess this will be great for the church goers to that church right there. But I wouldnt want to hang out there, especially in any hot part of the year. Breezes are cut off in there.

I wonder how the decision was made that THIS project is what's needed to give us a chance at Pueblo Magico?

Maybe the reason there's no trees is because they can't water them ??

As I understand, the tree roots were damaging the concrete and Old fishermen were using the shade under those old mature trees to drink beer and tell lies. And, the Padre of the church didn't like that and the litter they left.

I had spent many glorious  afternoons there under those trees drinkin and lie'n with Vicente and many others.

It was a sad day when those glorious Yucatecas were cut down. The nicest trees in all of San Carlos.

Well, considering that Americans are the most litigious people in the world, and the trees were pushing up the sidewalk, and the above mentioned Americans that are in San Carlos are on the old side, I can certainly understand why they were removed.
