I am looking for 'better' insurance for my Mexico travels.  NOT Qualitas.

Can you recommend yours, especially for claims responsiveness and quailty?

Bravo works through HDI Seguros but the shortest policy is $521 for six months.  They are recommended by USAA.

Please help me find a better Seguros that won't try to cheap me out.

Recent Bad Experience 29 Sept '17

I had purchased insurance through Lewis & Lewis Insurance (been with them about five years), with the policy actually with the Qualitas Seguros (Insurance) company.

I had a bad experience Fri, Sep 29.  I was at the tail of a line of traffic slowed for construction and hit by a double semi truck.

The Qualitas took a long time to get an English speaker on the line.  Several times I was hung up on (you could hear the phone pick up and hang up).  The adjuster was from Los Janos, a mile south of us, and he took two hours to show.   He didn't speak English.  He gave me a form and directed me to go to a repair shop in Nogales, MX.   Turns out it was a trick to get my truck repaired in Mexico instead of the US.

Lewis and Lewis stepped in and now Qualitas is "in line".  But they said their insurance adjuster's photographs on the scene weren't good enough, and wanted my shop's pictures sent to them.  No comment / apology / explanation for why I was sent to Nogales.  I am not at all happy with Qualitas.

Many people use Memo, owner of the center where the Pemex station is located on the north side of Beltrones. His offices are located to the rear of the station northwest corner. Hear good things about his coverage.

I most definitely DO NOT recommend Seguros HDI! Am in the middle of a nightmare experience with them as we speak. I do, however, recommend MAPFRE sold locally through Memo Iberri's office at the Pemex on the North side of the blvd. They are always friendly and accommodating..

On the Baja Nomads board, there have been a few bad stories about Seguros ACE and nothing but good stories about HDI. I'm talking stories about actual vehicle claims. I went with HDI. About 20% more than ACE for identical coverage.

There have been a few bad stories about MAPFRE AND Hambone in town.

I'm in the middle of a claim right now with HDI where our legally parked vehicle (insured with MAPFRE) was totaled by by a reckless driver insured with HDI. HDI's insured reckless driver was cited but now, some four months later they continued to come up with excuse after excuse. Threatened with legal action plus costs, they have acquiesced, but with us they seemed to do anything to keep from paying. No HDI for me EVER!

I'm bummed you had a bad experience with Qualitas. I've been using them through Lewis & Lewis for at least 10 years. I've never made a claim but expected them to be good, as I've never heard anything negative about them. My father just had a fender bender at "confusion corner". He experience some of the same issues as you with ACE. Post what you find.

I have been with Lewis and Lewis for many years, had need to make one claim in all the years. Things were well handled to my satisfaction.

Felipe is my insurance agent for both car and home owners. I have had claims on both and the service that I got from Felipe was excellent. I can't praise his helpfulness enough, he was great! His office is a few doors down from Shots Bar at the marina.

I agree with Kiteboarder about Felipe. I have used him and he is very good, reasonable, and responsive. I did a quote online, he emailed me right away, and he was able to bind a policy by email the night before I crossed the border in Nogales (while staying at Hilton Suites Motel).  Couldn't have been easier or more convenient, especially all the online access. I never heard him say he had only certain office hours etc. or wasn't available.  If I sent an email I got a quick reply.  Having had experience with other companies in the past 20 years, both US and Mexico based (including San Carlos), dealing with Felipe is a breeze.

Yes, Felipe is a good guy and he helped me al lot with a break-in when he was still at Hambone. Unfortunately, I've asked for quotes on house, truck and boat and the companies he writes for do not seem to be competitive.

You Never Know How Good Your Insurance Coverage Is Until You have a Claim.

Can not be better said. The folks that take your money are always great. It's what happens when a claim is made that matters!
