I read with dismay at the poor results and the lack of boats in this oldest of our tournaments. Can anyone give their opinion on what caused such a poor showing of fish and fisherpersons? Were the conditions really bad? Did cooler, green water enter the region?

Only two boats placed? How many entered?

The silence on this, the main fishing board in San Carlos, is ominous.

It was ROUGH!!!! We missed 4-5 dorado on Sunday. It is hard to spot fish when you are in 6 foot waves. And there were many small boats that entered, most of the boats went in within 20 minutes.

Water was nice today after a little rain after weeks of lumpy southern chop and green water. So of course today was the day I left town.

I was thinking of taking up ping pong again, but its been too windy for that too.

Everyone is playing pickle ball now.
We would have entered on my friend's panga. Maybe poor reports, but the weather was horrible. Tight chop on Saturday, and Sunday I heard was up to 8'. We caught three 10# dorado a mile off the beach Sunday. The guys just couldn't hook fish in the waves Saturday. The few single sailfish bites this week were solid. We caught twenty dorado 8-14# in three hours today (30mi. 200).
I think it is just too hot for some gringos, and maybe the entry fee is high for some. It use to be $30-50. Has inflation been that bad? I'm not going to get into how to build it up.
Tournament committees: When did it become acceptable to allow underweight, and female fish, to count! So if you bend that, how are you going to act on the all elements in one photo rule? That rule is stupid and dangerous. Photo of a code number after your hookup, the identifiable billfish, and then the touch of the leader. There is most likely a significantly higher mortality as fish are manhandled for those all-in-one photos.

Bryan, I know of two major tourneys looking to move to video precisely to avoid the all in one pic - thank you as your comment causes me to think of need to re-write our picture definitions for stills as well. Good point.
