We saw a post on KinoBay Net News concerning enforcement of rules relative to bringing pets (specifically dogs) across the border (by car). The problem I read about was someone flying into Puerto Vallarta with a small dog. There was a big issue about requiring a special health clearance. I know there are laws about this, but we have only been asked to see the vaccination records once in 25 years, and in fact live in Kino now. Has anyone been stopped at the border for paperwork since March 2, 2017? We need to make a quick trip to Nogales and do not want to try to find a certified USDA vet to get an International Health form for one night.Thanks.

A friend crossed yesterday. No problems but have all vaccination papers ready just in case.

Thanks for the reply! Still trying to pin down the whole story. I am finding all sorts of contradictory info but will be ready with all of our health records and hope for the best (or a green light). Did your friend happen to get a red light for inspection at the Aduana? Will check with our Nogales vet in the mean time. I'll let you know if there are any problems, in case anyone down there is concerned.

The health letter is only required when flying into Mexico. Dr. Solomon can supply you with one, I think he charges 200 pesos.

Sorry, I misread your post and thought you were talking about taking pets into the US. I have never heard of anyone having a problem bringing dogs into Mexico by car.

We have crossed by car quite a few times with dogs. We just bring up to date immunization records and have never had a problem either direction.  Most recent was 2 weeks ago.  We've been asked for records twice I think crossing to US and once going into Mexico. Maybe 15 trips total.  Even with a red light they haven't asked most times.

Our records are all from a Mexican vet in San Carlos.  This has been acceptable crossing both directions.
