There seems to be a lack of information out there regarding good anchorages around Kino Bay.  Most sources list only the area to the south of Isla Alacatraz, a wide open anchorage offering little protection and a long dinghy ride to the beach in front of town.  However, there is an excellent anchorage in Laguna La Cruz as well.  The Laguna is located just to the south of town with easy access via a dirt road.  The holding is great with wonderful protection from all points.  The channel was dredged in the 1970's and is still perfectly usable to vessels drawing up to about 5' (8' at high tide).  Please feel free to PM me for coordinates and directions for using the channel.  We'd love to see more boats up here in Bahia de Kino.

How about a pic or two of the anchorage, preferably from shore and from a vessel. Heck, maybe even a drone fly-by. LOL!

I dont doubt your story, mind you. Just strange that no guide books really talk about this anchorage much.

Yeah, it's strange how few people know about the perfect anchorage in Laguna La Cruz.  I live in Bahia de Kino year round and am on the water several times a week in my panga and/or Laser.   I routinely wander around in and out of the laguna.  A few years ago I took a a few days to map the channel with a GPS and sounder.  I couldn't believe how nice and straight it is.  Then I learned that in the 70's it was dredged as part of a marina project that collapsed (a precurser to the Escalera Nautica fiasco...).  Today Laguna La Cruz is managed as a RAMSAR site and is destined to get elevated protection from CONANP soon.  Its a wonderful place to hang out, full of birds and... sea turtles!

Here's a Youtube vid
Start at around 3:00 for a view of the mouth and the laguna
