Not to contradict anyone or anything. Avianca is an old and very trusted Colombian Airline. I think originating in Bogota. I flew with them many times from Bogota to Barranquilla and Cartagena and return. I think these were DC 8s. Also DC 3s but do not remember if they were Avianca? Definitely not jets, LOL. Ron

I stand corrected. I remember the DC3 as a twin engine tail dragger, if not overloaded, could take off and land in a short distance. The big brother DC 7 was a 4 engine powerhouse that really rumbled until it reached cruise. I think that was '57, 58, '59, anyway, a few days of memories, LOL. Ron

It sure is! Turns our Avianca Brasil is just the result of Synergy buying out the Brazilian regional OceanAir and rebranding it Avianca Brasil... much the same way they have invested in AeroMar and will rebrand it Avianca Mexico.

Avianca has a rich and long lived history, beginning in Columbia (albiet a different name) beginning in Dec 1919... more than 98 years!

I had it backwards.. I thought Avianca started in Brazil and expanded to Columbia... But, it's the other way around! :D Thanks for the correction Wy Ynot!
