We headed out with James on Wild Card after I felt I had my real estate done for the day. We stopped at seven miles with lots of birds and bait. Within twenty minutes we had a knock down which I thought was the small dorado or tuna hitting the bait balls. The line was screaming and I thought I had a nice tuna. Then a 150# popped up jumping back towards the boat. As James stood frozen at the helm, Lisa eventually came to the call. The fish pulled off another 300 yards before it threw the hook. Will I vow not to run any more J hooks this year? Who can resist running the purple and black Ilander though.

At 6:00 we turned around and twenty minutes later I saw a few boils turn into hundreds. I called out 'tuna' on the radio only to realize that 600 common dolphin were cruising in. As Lisa was sleeping, we snuck our last beer before sunset having to call it a night. We then had a strike while I was on front. I told James to set slow, but who knows if he heard me. The fish was on and wasn't running. Thirty seconds later I checked and James had the 30# at past full strike! The fish dogged it out and ten minutes after sunset on what he then told us was his birthday, we released a nice marlin. Will work on some pics Friday, with hopefully more tomorrow. Still sounded thin on dorado though temps to 79. Carne hunters tomorrow, but who can not get excited about a fish attempting to spear you and then steal all your line?

Tight lines,

Bryan

Hahaha too funny. Actually I had it past full strike for about 2 minutes, thought I was playing chess with a full on stale mate. OOPS! Rookie mistake. Hey you forgot about the skippy!

Great afternoon on a whim. Yes I froze but I thought you just snagged a log or a container crate and yes I am really scared of a bill through the chest. I need to stop watching you tube.

Thanks Bryan for a wonderful afternoon on the water. Always a pleasure to learn more and observe more the true art of actually getting a monster fish from the right gear, the right knots, the right bait, and the right presentation. First Class!

Sorry my dog ate two of your bally hoo's!

I guess a little NW is predicted for Sunday. Not sure if that just might be a breeze in close. Take a look at the weather in Arizona.

75 and blue water at Doble, 77 to the Island, 74 at the Island, 83 farther out. Pobre Juan caught a 30# dorado, Kryptonite a 18# dorado. The tuna and sails could show at any moment. Lots of marlin all around and small dorado. Still some good yellowtail moving around the Island. We hit some small ones good on the NW and SE side. The fish are in tight to the rocks. Some were farther out on the SE side, and bigger. Tons of bait. Tons of dolphin on the reef. Another beautiful day.

tight lines,

Bryan
