My understanding is it can be extended to the maximum of 180 days.  Based on that understanding and review of the information available, it would be your responsibility to report to the nearest Migracion office and get it extended before the 7 day expiration period and pay the fee.

My advice would be that if that possibility exists, you would be well advised to get the FMM for 180 days and pay the fee in the first place.

If anyone has any practical experience here please share it.
