Holy Moly! San Carlos might now be called Cowtown! I know the ladies tournament doesn't allow bait but anyone not fishing the tournament might want to bridle up barilete's this weekend and run them deep....

We did not have a scale..however I put a tape on the fish,,it was 57 inches in Girth and 62 inches long..based on the FORMULA girth x girth x lenght divided by 800 it was 245 pounds or so plus or minus 10%... I have a 165 pound YF on the scale and can tell you this fish was way bigger than mine......200 or 250 who knows for sure but what a great fish...wow tight lines Biggest YF in San Carlos in a long time for sure..maybe ever .congrats to lucky 2 & crew C-22 Steve

BIG congratulations, Ray and Vicky (?)! Let's see now: you have been fishing San Carlos for about 3 years I think, and I've been fishing here for 32 years and have never seen any tuna bigger than 80 pounds until your fish. It just ain't fair Dick (p.s. since many of the boats here would have been spooled or the terminal tackle would have broken, please tell us what gear and how much line you had on the outfit that landed that trophy fish)

Dick, there have been a few over 80 lbs caught here in 32 years. The boats Bittersweet caught a 126 or better (verify w/Ricardo Negro on Reel Fast) Que Sera caught several in the 100 lb range and more recently think there was one caught that weighed around 155. One boat I know caught 6 that weighed a atotal of 800 lbs so that's about it.

There are a couple other tales lingering from the last couple days. Will tales come true? Manana maybe. Lot of bait out there today. You could follow the ripples of fish swimming underneath the surface. Great reports of dorado farther out. Some large ones are being found! The surface temps jumped up to 80. DICK IN RESPONSE TO YOUR TACKLE QUESTION, FOLLOWING IS A LIST: ROD, DIWA ELIMINATOR, 5 1/2 FT. MEDIUM ACTION, 50 # CLASS REEL, 50-W. LEVEL WIND/ LEVER DRAG (NOT AVAILABLE ANY MORE) BACKING- 50 YDS. 80# MONO 500 YDS. 80 #POWER PRO BRAID TOPSHOT- 100 YDS. 80# MONO HOOK MUSTAD 8/0 NEEDLE EYE. UNFORTUNATELY THIS ROD WAS THE LIGHTEST ACTION ROD IN THE SPREAD, SO I HAD TO WORK A LOT HARDER. INCIDENTLY, THE CONGRATULATIONS MUST BE BESTOWED UPON THE CAPTAIN, MY WIFE, KATHY BUCY. SHE NOT ONLY PUT US ON THE TUNA, SHE EXPERTLY BACKED DOWN AND KEPT THE LUCKY II IN THE EXACT PROXIMITY OF THE Y/T AT ALL TIMES.I ON THE OTHER HAND, GOT THE GRUNT JOB, SHE KEPT COMMANDING; REEL/REEL/REEL. GO AHEAD GUYS, EAT YOUR HEART OUT, NOT ONLY IS SHE A FANTASTIC SKIPPER, SHE LOVES TO FISH AND IS BEAUTIFUL. ADDITIONALLY, WE REALLY HAD OUR HANDS FULL FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES ; AS WE HAD A DOUBLE, HOOK UP. UNFORTUNATELY THE SECOND GRANDE CUT THE LINE ON IT'S TEETH IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS TO BRING THE FISH TO THE SURFACE AND SECURE IT.. THANKS FOR THE INQUIRY KATHY & RAY BUCY LUCKY II Last edited on Tue Jun 1st, 2010 08:04 pm by kathyann |
