There is an account over on Bloody Decks about a boat fishing Isla Catalan off Loreto (even though he calls it Catalina) for yellowtail last week WHO CAUGHT A 220 LB. YELLOWFIN TUNA while fishing live macks down at 115 feet. Astounding!! In January!!!

Hard to tell if it's true, even with the pics but there they are.

His plan on Day Two for fishing for swordfish has me a little suspicious, though. Who fishes for swordfish on rod and reel? It's a VERY rare catch.

Lots of folks fish the broadbill on rod & reel. Last year we spoke with the guys on "Bad Company" that were targeting them off the Islands of Loreto/Esccandito and meeting with some decent success.

They are easier to ambush when they are on the surface, feeding on yellowtail tuna - watch for a REALLY BIG boil! ;)

I too am a little suspicious, but they do seem to be bringing fish to the docks at Escondido when no one else is doing much. They seem to go further and do more than the other boats chartering out of there. The temps are not right for that big boy in the depths, but it might happen. I did get a small swordie off of the north end of San Marcos several years ago so it also could happen.

Robert Ross From Bad Company is one Bad Ass fisherman. Probably the best of the best in the SOC. Not sure about the report from The guy on the Bloody Decks forum, But I'm Certain Bad Company is Catching Big YFT and Swordfish out of Loreto.
One of these days were going to catch one in SC. I think Its time to try a Florida deep drop rig

Game On
