I need a new washer. I am wanting the largest capacity I can get. That seems to be a Mabe brand at Sam's. Does anybody have experience with that brand?

We have had Mabe stoves. I have no complaint. They are huge down here so getting repairs made would probably be fairly easy. However, our stove always worked just fine.

I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from a working stove, compared to a washing machine. Stoves, especially gas stoves, have very few components to actually fail. They are basically a manual control value attached to a series of metal tubes that feed a burner. The most complex components are a thermostat and a thermo couple in the oven that can last many, many years. I guess there is the electronic ignitor, too. And probably a pressure regulator, but none of this is stressed, moving parts.

Not so with washing machines with their motor, transmissions, electric/electronic controllers, safety switches, belts not to mention the plumbing that has electronic valves and hoses that can leak.

Have you tried shopping online with Costco Mexico? Or taking a run up to Costco HMO. The highway is so unbelievably good now. I think they will ship to your house, too.

When I was shopping around for a large capacity refrigerator, I got the best value (features and capacity/price) up there, compared to ANYWHERE in G/SC, including Sam's. I shopped hard. Costco couldn't be beat. They had Samsung and LG fridges up there; both of which are big names in washing machines, too.

I would avoid Acros/Whirlpool down here. Just not reliable for any appliance. Whirlpool ain't our father's/mother's Whirlpool anymore, if reliability records from Consumers Report can be believed. I believe they can be trusted.

I was at Costco today, unexpectedly. The cheapest washing machine I saw up there was a 22kg capacity, high efficiency type (the ones WITHOUT the old style agitator) from GE. It was 8990 pesos.

Model number appeared to be LGH72201WBAB0.

Thanks Hook! I was hoping for bigger than 22 kg. Just white, efficient, and not too many bells and whistles.

A 22kg, high efficiency washer can hold a lot of clothes. Agitators took up a lot of room.

This one actually is white. Glass top. 10 year warranty.

I wouldnt call 9000 pesos inexpensive, though.

I wish I could say that the HE washers clean better than the old style agitator ones. They dont, IMO. Dirty jeans still have dirt in them, after being run through our Samsung HE in the States. I bring a few pairs down here and they are way cleaner in our 20+ year old Kenmore large capacity washer, after one washing. Never a repair needed on it, except I had to bypass the switch that prevents the washer from operating with the lid open in the spin cycles.

we also have a 20 plus year Kenmore - actually 30 and it's the best washer in the world. Wish they made them again but that's not going to happen. Would pay top dollar and then some for one.
