I was looking at a Mazatlan discussion board I belong to this AM and noticed a guy selling all his Shaw receivers. I figured it was simply another Canadian moving back home.

Actually, he went on to say that Shaw is using a new satellite that began operation in February of this year and its signal gets no where near Mexico. The post was unclear as to whether the old satellite had been shut down yet, but he felt the handwriting was on the wall.

Just an FYI for all my Canadian friends. Has anyone experienced any interruption yet?

Hook,  The Anik satellites were launched in 2004 and activated shortly thereafter. They have a lifespan of 15 years. Shaw has been moving all the channels to  the new Anik G satellite. They will all be in HD. The new satellite will have a footprint covering Canada with a little bleedover into  the northern states, maybe a few 100 miles or so.  Definitely not Mexico or southern States for that matter.

You will keep getting Shaw in Mexico until at best guess sometime this fall or winter. Then ppfffttt. Gone. Exact time is anyones guess.

Someone on the Maz board stated that Shaw will be business as usual for Mexico. Not so. Canada only. I'd think twice about buying Shaw equip. for Mexico. But then , each to their own . Just be warned.

Some people say that you will be able to get Anik SD for years to come just not HD. Not so. When the satellite runs out of fuel for it's thrusters, thats it.

Bummer.  No hockey for me this winter.
