Extreme shortage of customs officers will mean even longer lines with fewer gates open starting tomorrow.  Don't shoot the messenger.  Too late to do anything about it except plan for a long wait.

Not sure what you mean. The article came out on Thursday and the 28 customs agents being redeployed happens today.

on all the news channels this morning they are reporting that the president is threatening to close the border next week!

topics of discussion where;
*the economic impact it would have on both countries
* the affects on the 1.5 million Americans living in mexico

questions i have are what does closing the southern border mean?
 * all ports of entry
 * land ports of entry
 * air ports of entry
 * sea ports of entry

It seems it is only the land entry points on the Southern border. Hope it does not happen. In the short term, the truck drivers are going to be angry and I would avoid the toll road to Mariposa. Would be helpful to hear from anybody crossing this weekend.

SHELF LIFE, produce has a minimal shelf life before it is consumed!

the TRUCK TRAFFIC JAMS at the border are an annual event!

through a wrench in the gears, such as central american immigrants and the CLOSING of the land ports.

  IS A RECIPE FOR ECONOMIC DISASTER FOR THE USA, MEXICO AND CANADA!!!!!

I would get too worked up about this.

Closing the border would get challenged in the courts imo.

This is a PR threat to Mexico, wanting Mexico to pay for a wall on Mexico's southern border, or to at least stop the flow of kids and mom's walking accross their bridges.

28 officiers getting shifted from one area to the next represents what % of the number that are employed from California to MacAllen?

It’s 28 officers who are being transferred from Nogales port only, 750 officers TOTAL are going from other border ports to El Paso.

BULLSHIPPER, you are probably correct!!

there is 1.5 billions dollars of commerce daily dependent on the border being open!

the innuendo created of accusations of closing the border, will have it's own impact!

think about it we EXPATS are already looking for our options!!!

Trying to avoid the politics of it. The point is that the border was already understaffed, 28 agents leaving today is only the start, there will be more. All border crossings are impacted so lots of people will try Lukeville and it will be jammed up too. At a time when snowbirds head North it will mean a long wait at the border. Nothing you can do about it but plan for a long wait and get through it.

They estimate a 30 min wait for Nogales and Lukeville from 10 am to 6 pm today Saturday, according to this. Not sure how reliable it is

Interesting but ICE officers do not man the border, CPB does. Customs and Border Protection. All under Homeland Security but different training. CBP are tasked with the 328 ports of entry. Not ICE or Border Patrol. Maybe it will get sorted out someday but for snowbirds heading home right now it will be a mess. Take a book and hit the bathroom before getting in line.

40,000 to 50,000 illegals are apprehended on the southern border every month.  268,044 so far this year. That's just the ones that are caught. Most of those are just let loose into the US of A and are given Social Security money and free health care and food stamps. Personally, I would rather that Money go to those who have paid into it their whole working life. At this rate how long will SS last? Figures are that there are 30 Million living in the US now. I hear that they are considering changing the Name from United States of America to Mexico Norte. If things are left to run its course, My Social Security will not last for the rest of my life...Isn't anyone else worried???

Bullshipper, the information on the cbp web site link you posted is completely worthless and erroneous.
It is in total conflict with the real time El Imparcial web cam images of the looooong lines at Nogales, both Mariposa and Deconcini crosssings.  The estimated wait times on the El Imparcial web site are far more realistic IMO.

Right now the cbp site says no delay. El Imparcial webcam shows cars backed up as far as the camera shows. They say wait time is 60 min which is really not that bad. The camera does not lie. Will have to hear from people that cross today what the real wait time is.

CBP employs 42,000 agents, and Nogales is their largest station in the USA according to their website.

I am not trying to be combative about this. But I think Mr trump is the source of a lot of "fake" news used to manipulate public opinion and that news sources like to publish headlines.

28 people being shifted to another area within their 1100 sq mile patrol area, is 9 people per 8hr shift, 5 days a week + their supervisor.

A lot of Folks who have not drank the relentless cool aid of CNN and MSNBC think otherwise...I never thought I would live to see a Coup attempt to unseat a duly elected, sitting President.....In the USA..; SCARY....
