The post was about expected increased wait times based on statements from the director of customs and border protection. If you don't care or don't want to prepare for it then that is your choice. I'm out.

Naco or Lukeville might be a viable alternative.

I don't have one because I never go through downtown and Mariposa doesn't have a Sentri lane. My truck is large and barely fits through the gates, plus the few times I was forced to go that way the lines were horrible before you got anywhere near the crossing.

I don't have one. Wouldn't do me any good anyway I get to border 5 to 6 am. Nice quiet and quick cross about 15 times a year.

Two hours so far. We are still south of traffic from downtown. Most people using the road as a restroom. And walking around talking/smoking. I will post a final time (Sunday 31 March, arrived 1630 now it's 1838.

Back to the Original Subject..........When the border is closed I think that the small crossings ie. Naco or Lukeville might be a viable alternative. We'll see

Arrived at end of line 1.30pm , car crossed exactly 3 hours after arrival , me in same convoy towing trailer took extra 1.5 hours due to being stuck behind tufesa at the bus / rv gate.

Major kudos to border patrol , control now extends to actual frontier consequently traffic controlled along with help for RV’s and folks pulling trailers , sooooo much better ! Finally the USA is exerting control to our end of the bridge , huge improvement .

Only 4 lanes open , but all was moving well.

Overall , I have had way worse crossings.

Goodbye Mexico , it’s been a blast.

:)

I know of two others who crossed yesterday (Sunday). One arrived at 1230 and had a little over an hour wait. The other arrived at 230 and had over two hours. Both chose downtown because an unspecified website said the wait was much longer at Mariposa.

Sounds like you were at Mariposa, Ian? Safe travels, amigo! The south of Spain is a wonderful area.

I was just reading a post on the Mazatlan board about someone who crossed on March 6th. That was a Wednesday, and he was attempting to use the Mariposa crossing. He said that he hit lines of trucks in BOTH lanes, well before the overpass where you decide to go downtown or to Mariposa. At that point, it took him four hours to get to the overpass, where he decided to go to downtown. With all the other passenger cars making the same decision, the downtown crossing was an additional 2-3 hours.

6-7 hours to cross is the longest I have ever heard of.

And they are predicting even longer waits?

This situation with the trucks is becoming a very regular thing.

Another report from yesterday. This time a Lukeville crossing. People left SC around 0600 and arrived at Lukeville around 1300. Only two cars in front of them. Two lanes open (i think that's all there is at Lukeville).

Anyone know the mileage from here to PHX going through Lukeville as compared to the Nogales route?

You should be able to get San Carlos to Lukeville distance from the above link to Point to Point site.

And Mapquest for the USA points

I know it’s 433 miles from my house in San Carlos to a point in Phoenix near the Chandler / Mesa line, going through Mariposa.

Sorry, I was able to look it up
503 through Lukeville vs 457 miles through Nogales, but you have to backtrack E on I10 about 35 miles to get to PHX from the junction on the 87 when going to Lukeville.

So if you continue to travel west on I10 towards Los Angeles, the I10 Junction is 468 miles from SC through Lukeville and 492 through Nogales and PHX + the extra border wait timein Nogales and any rush hr traffic in Tuc and PHX.

So it could take and extra 3 hrs going through Nogales if the wait there is 2 1/2 hrs and you don't get to see scenic Gila Bend either.
