Hey there,

We are visiting San Carlos and have little kids - age 4. I'm trying to figure out the best location to stay in San Carlos where they can walk less than 1 and a half kilometers and reach kid friendly areas (snorkeling, malecon, quiet beaches), but we are not able to pay for expensive hotels. I found some economic airbnb's south of the golf course  (on Calle 1, 2, 3) - but don't if that's near anything for kids. Are there local buses we can take if we are too far from the beaches?

Any help of location advice really appreciated.

Buses are cheap but they just go up and down the main road in San Carlos. I do not know of any location or activity center geared towards kids in San Carlos.

Los Jitos might be the least expensive in the long run... They have a Water-slide on the rooftop.. taxis out front, La Palapa Griega Rest., Captains Economical rest, Terazzo Mexican rest directly across from hotel.. and the beach at la Palapa/El Mar/La Posada Condos.. El Mar has a pool(cold) and breakfast buffet... walk to the beach and restarants from there, golf course also has a fantastic view of San Carlos, good food, drinks at the Palapa Bar. and Dad can golf..

If you're coming down for a week, realize your coming during the prime season. San Carlos is NOT geared toward activity for very small children. I think you mentioned 4 years old??
Most people are not out swimming in the water this time of the year especially January unless they are divers. The water is COLD! Although the by boat water tours are a great thing to do. Almost all the restaurants are kid-friendly
There are many very nice places to stay for relatively inexpensive prices even during the prime season..
Although not geared for small kids, you won't find a nicer location that is close to the USA.
The buses run all day and into the evening. Another poster already stated that most of the bus stops are on the main street through town. There are several people on this site and the other board that has rentals. You can call any of the real estate agencies for assistance. They will be helpful to suggest less expensive hotels.
Keep in mind that the hotel cost usually less than private rentals.
Since your not real familiar with San Carlos, I would stay somewhere near the beach on the main road through town
(The Beltrones}The beaches are not that busy.
You will find plenty of fun little things to do here in SC. quads, biking, hiking, horseback ride playing on the beaches. :O)
I'm sure plenty of people here will have some great ideas!

There is a nice playground at Thrifty Ice Cream and another behind Jax Snax.  Both are on the main road in town.  Enjoy your visit !

I see on google maps a calle 1 and 2 south of the golf and pretty close to Posada. They are in Villa Hermosa and I think there is a short cut that would go down the hill to Posada condominiums, El Mar restaurant and the beach. If so, that would be a decent area. The posada beach is nice and both El Mar and Palapa Griega are good restaurants. You are also pretty close to Beltrones, the main drag. If it is Calle 1 east of the golf course, that would not be as handy.
