Thanks to who or what has been raking the beaches... looks is everything, and it looks like someone cares. Great incentive to others to keep it clean and PITCH IN

Perhaps I do not have a good mental image of what kind of raking is being done on the beaches. But one needs to be aware that there are turtle nests in the sand at this time of the year and until the end of December. Raking might also obliterate turtle tracks in the sand that help the daily turtle patrols determine what is going on in the turtle world.  Perhaps what would be more helpful is if people who rake would level the ATV and truck tracks so that the newly hatched baby turtles who are walking from the dunes to the water do not get trapped in the ruts and die.

The volunteers for the Turtle Conservation group have been attempting to smooth the areas in front of the known nests in anticipation of hatching. The deep tire ruts are the difficult obsticals that these small turtles face in their journey to the water.
If you are walking the beaches please try to walk on top and flatten the deep tire tracks.

Per the moderator of the “Other” board, a big volleyball tournament is at SF beach on Nov. 16th 17th and 18th. There is a flyer posted on that board if you care for additional information.

It’s at SF beach. Please see the other board for the flyer if you cannot see it.

This is very good news. Elsa Coria, the leader of the turtle conservation team had talked to Pilar management last week about the turtles nests and upcoming hatchings. We are assuming that the Pilar management had something to do with moving the location of the volleyball tournament. One nest of baby turtles did successfully hatch this week in from of Delfin. Elsa tells me that she is giving a talk to Pilar and Delfin residents this next week. Her talk is open to the public.
