I tried to install my Asus VPN router (RTARCH-13) to run through my Telmex fiber router in bridge mode. Nord VPN says it can't be done.  Does anyone have a fiber connection and a working VPN router?  What brand and model?  Thanks.

If you are trying bridge mode, I assume that you want to "bridge" your San Carlos network to a network elsewhere - possibly a home in the USA or Canada. Such that the IP addresses in San Carlos are a subset of the IP address range elsewhere? Thus, the computers and printers in both locations are on the same network even though they are separated by thousands of kilometers - as if they were just in the other room.

Is this what you are attempting to do?

Or, are you attempting to get really fast speed in a room too far from your TelMex fiber optic modem/router?

I am using a pair of Netgear Archer AC 1900 "Nighthawk" routers (R7000) running DD-WRT. I attempted to use bridge mode, but could not get it to configure properly. I ended up using routed mode instead of bridging mode.

I am using a Netgear R7000 also and it is behind the Telmex modem on fiber optic.  It is running in router mode.  NordVPN works fine for me on a PC but I gave up getting it to work on the router.  StrongVPN works best on the router for the sites I desire except I wish that they had servers in other cities.

Which firmware are you running on the Netgear router? DD-WRT? The documentation on NordVPN says that the Netgear firmware does *not* support NordVPN.

I had advice that I needed to use bridge mode because the asus router was reporting a dual nat environment.  My limited understanding is that I was just trying to get a clean pass through from the telmex router.  All I'm really trying to accomplish is router vpn so the roku subscriptions and certain banking traffic go though a selected (unblocked) server in the us.

Oops, I left out I am also running DD-WRT on the Netgear R7000 router.  It may seem a little scary to flash the router to DD-WRT but it is relatively easy to do.  Of course, you should create an image backup first and then install  DD-WRT in case someday you want to go back to the original Netgear software.  I had to do this when the WAN hardware part of the router failed and I had to return it for exchange.

Yes, flashing was initially scary - potentially bricking a $160 router. It went fine for me too.

I setup a site-to-site routed VPN. The documentation to do this was all over the place with different versions of DD-WRT.

So, how can I help? Are there some LOG entries for when you tried? I found the LOG for OpenVPN under Status / OpenVPN to be useful for diagnosing my problems.

We recently moved, otherwise I'd offer to come by and help out.

I have extensive experience using VPNs.

Most recently, I used a *very old* D-Link router loaded with DD-WRT to connect to a VPN I had set up on my Asus router at my main house in California, which was on a Spectrum internet connection, where we also had Spectrum TV service.  That was really cool, because with a Roku and the Spectrum app, I was able to get all the channels I get in California, including local channels, On Demand, and everything else.  So if you have a friend in the states with a fast internet connection who knows how to network and wouldn't mind sharing.....that worked really well.

That having been said, I've also used stock D-Link firmware with unblock-us, which was ridiculously easy to set up.  At the time I could have even done it without the D-Link, as the Telmex router we had at the time allowed me to change the DNS settings (a more recent Telmex router did not).  So you may want to check your Telmex fiber router to see if you can access DNS settings, and if so, then perhaps unblock-us would work very easily.  Nose around their website https://www.unblock-us.com/how-to-set-up/ and sign up for a free week to see if it works for you.

Try Torguard.net
They have downloadable VPN's so you don't need the physical modem.  I have an ASUS modem using Torguard, but wish I had downloaded the version, it's easier to get support.
