I gave Similares a try today. I bought some Lisinopril. It is only very slightly cheaper than Farmacia Guadalajara for the same dose and quantity. Hardly worth the effort if I am already buying my entire suite of monthly medications  at Guadalajara. My guess is that Similares/San Carlos is keying their prices to beat the high priced Farmacia BF in San Carlos. But, Similares is an option in certain cases. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Drug prices vary significantly by country. Who knew !! Right.

Two years ago I started taking Celebrex for OA in my fingers. Bought the Pfizer brand here as that's all that is avail in Mex. Last fall we were in Italy, and the Pfizer box was 1/3 the price here but there were 2 generics at 1/6 the price. So I bought 25 x 20 packs of a generic for 1/6 the price here. No script needed. The EU is much tougher on crappy generics.

My concerns over Similares medications increased this week. I am a type II diabetic and ran out of my generic Glimedepiride (bought at BF and Guadalajara)-- a drug that controls blood sugar. My fasting blood sugar is normally near 100 each morning when I use this brand of Glimidipiride. I bought the Similares brand about 5 days ago and started using it. My fasting blood sugar jumped to 150. Yesterday, I bought my old brand at BF and started using it last night. My fasting blood sugar was back down to 100. For whatever reason, the Similares brand is clearly inferior. In the past, my doctor told me that the quantity of a dose in a Similares brand  medication is not reliable. This appears to be the case with Glimepiride. I take my diabetes very seriously and will go back to BF or Guadalajara for my medications. I add that I have found that the prices for generics at BF and Guadalajara are very close to the prices at Similares. My main problem with BF is that, on non-generic brands that have no generic equivalent, they make promises on prices and then fail to keep those promises. That is why I lean strongly toward doing business with Guadalajara who is cheaper on non-generic medications.

Ballenamar,  thank you for posting this info on the difference between Similares and other farmacy meds from your experience with that one.
As you discovered it is best not to assume all generics are equal.  Since some of us aren’t diabetic and aren’t testing blood every day, we have no way of testing the dosage levels in the meds we take.  Other than feeling ill and suspecting a med is not performing well.

Thanks for passing on your results to us.
