FYI - for those who don’t already know, the new pump installed in May in the rebuilt lower pila for the Caracol Peninsula failed last Thurs.
Because of the rationing schedule (residents thinking it normal that they would be without water from Thu morning until Sunday) it was not discovered until this morning.

Information from CEA is that the pump has been removed and sent to Empalme to be ‘rewound’.  CEA trucks have been dumping water in the upper pila today, but it may take a long time for many residents to get that water, if at all.  The water load from the CEA truck is very small.

The solution may take a while, but they are working on it.

Just a small correction. The submersible pump installed in the lower piila was not a NEW pump. It is the same pump that has been in use for many years.

The lower pila was rebuilt, repairing the walls including re-plastering with hydraulic cement for water proofing, and a new roof built over the pila.

The information I received yesterday morning directly from Josh, who oversaw the project and pump installation, is that CEA told him that pump had only been in service for one month before he received it to install.

Now, how truthful the info from CEA, that’s another matter...

Still no word from the HOA if a new pump is in our future.  Humberto is telling people repair of the failed pump may take 2 to 4 weeks.

It does not take 2 weeks to rebuild a pump.

When I arrived home from Guaymas at 12:30, Tuesday, there was street water pressure at my house.  I was gone for a couple of hours, so don’t know when it started.  This is the first water we have had since last Thursday.

I also don’t know if getting water is a result of finally having enough truck loads of water dumped into the upper pila, or if the rumor they were in the process this morning of rigging a replacement pump is true.

I do know there has still been no communication from the Caracol HOA to residents about this yet.

This is a tough situation, regarding pumps, I buy two, install one, save the other for replacement, OMG what a concept!?!. next is it the obligation of CEA to supply water?  Good questions, in the event the CEA drops the ball, is it the obligation of the Caracol HOA to jump in, buy water as needed and keep the upper pila full, it is summer and we are hot.

Josh answered the question...CEA installed a pump between 11 a.m. and noon today.  It is not yet known whether it is the repaired original pump, or a replacement from somewhere else.
At the moment all that matters is we have water again, hopefully for a long enough period to fill tinacos of all residents on the top row.
Yippee!

The water was off again by 2:30 pm, whether because CEA closed the valve or improper pump installation, we don’t know.
Definitely a disappointment to only get water for a couple of hours, since this is the 5th day without.
