Ordinarily we would not be too concerned about storms until mid July but Bud might be the exception.  It is a powerful cat 3 hurricane at the moment.  Winds of 120mph.  Plan for some rough seas next week and rain by the weekend.  It all depends on what happens when Bud starts going over cooler water on Wednesday.  It might break up quickly but will probably survive in some form in the Sea of Cortez by Sat or Sun.  Maybe not a high wind event for SC but a good chance of heavy rain.  Lots of variables.  Also a chance that we get nothing but sprinkles.  Better to be prepared.

Here he comes!  Bud is a monster cat 4 storm.  This is not a drill.  Follow your favorite weather site carefully until this is over.  Bud is now forecast to still be a hurricane on Thursday.  It should weaken quickly as it approaches Cabo but still be a powerful tropical storm.  The track at that point is critical.  The longer it stays West of the cape the more it will weaken.  If it goes East of the cape it can maintain strength in the warm waters of the SOC.  Don't rely on luck, make preparations for lots of rain.  When storms get this strong they tend to wobble ([size=trochoidal oscillation) as they comes in.  It is not impossible that this could be a Jimena scenario where a tropical depression parks in the sea and dumps rain.   Take this seriously please.]

Looks like Saturday will be the worst. Maybe some outer bands late Friday. A few degrees change in course could make a huge difference in impact to SC. We need rain but I fear this will come so fast it will cause flooding.

9am update from NHC shows no change in track but does say that Bud has peaked in intensity and is moving over cooler water. They call it upwelling. The extreme low pressure under the eye brings up very cold water to the surface. Looks like Thursday will be the critical day as the storm crosses the Baja into the sea. Will depend on how much circular motion it has left. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Lots of energy in a cat 4 hurricane and when it unwinds it will dump a lot of rain somewhere.

Hardly. It is supposed to be a depression when it comes to our area. We are preparing for waves where we live however.

Yep, it will be But Lite when it gets to SC but it is still predicted to be a rain event and drop 4 to 6 inches of rain.

Anyone remember Jimena. It was a rain event.

Hope for the best, Prepare for the worst.

30+ inches is a lot different than 4-6. Jimena is a far-fetched comparison.

Crossing the peninsula will take a lot of strength/moisture out of it. With 4-6 inches, the arroyos will flow, but it wont be a big deal unless you live in one.
