|I haven't been to San Carlos now in about 10 years. I first started going down in 1986. I kept my sailboat, Tequila Flashback at the marina for 20 years and spent a lot of time down there until life interfered. Anyway, at that time, when the bar on the hill, El Yate was still open, an American Legion Post Flag hung behind the bar. It read something to the effect
"American Legion Post One, begun by Claire Chennault Kuming, China, operating in Exile, Sonora Mexico"
Later when El Yate closed it hung for a while in another little cantina just up the road from Bananas.
Does anyone remember this? Any know the story behind it? Anyone know what happened to it? I always wanted to ask the connection to Chennault and the Flying Tigers and how it ended up in San Carlos.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks
