Astrid (the operator of the horse riding business) announced on her Facebook page that she will be moving as the building at the old Club Med site will soon be torn down. From her page....

The old Club Med Sonora Bay (later Paradiso Hotel) will soon not longer be standing.… The new owners plan to demolish it in April 2018, the buildings are in very bad shape and therefore impossible to keep as they are. A complete new project will take birth here soon.

The owners have the right to do anything they like, however I must comment that I can remodel, renovate and restore the structure for half the cost of constructing new, for 40 years I remodeled, renovated and restored houses and commercial structures, this is defined as new doors and windows, new plumbing and electric, new floors, new plaster and paint, new AC, that's right all at half of new construction cost, now I predict that the developers will demolish the said structure, rebuild and run out of money, thus the fact of San Carlos Country Club Condos, and the old El Presidents Hotel built half way dead for 10 years and demolished, what about the unfinished condo tower at Hotel La Fiesta, a developer can be a dreamer, bad business decision to kick 3 restaurants out and lose income for a year, this is a trend for failure, if I am wrong I will buy you all a cold beer.

steven, i have been a contractor for the same amount of time!! those buildings need to go! there should be  a better use of land, the existing building have no good access to the beach area.
the developers are one of the wealthiest family's in mexico!!
this is not their first rodeo, they have resorts in cabos, manzanio to name a few!!

Rich D, you are so right. They are not about to run out of money. The family builds beautiful resorts. It will only add to San Carlos. Too bad about the stables tho. Great location for them, and the horses are a plus for tourism.

I wouldnt consider that a plus. Off grid? That means no elec for A/C in the summer. Hence, the reason she is selling her mini-split. It's WAY hotter in her new location. No more ocean breezes.

I cant imagine she is happy with what is going on over there. Huge areas are now off-limits, due to development. She now has to cross the paved road to access the beach. Actually, she may have to ride along it till she reaches the playa publica entrance. From there, she's probably limited to that area alone. Playa Blanca might not want her riding in front of their beach. Homes and rocks start at the east end of the playa publica.

The end of horseback riding for hire in San Carlos may be near. Very sad, she is such a nice lady. My wife and I have probably ridden with her 4-5 times in our ten years here. Always enjoyed her horses and her company.

I have not spoken to her about or since the move, perhaps one of us should.  I suspect all is well and that she, and her business will continue to do well.  She always had to cross the road to get to the beach,  at least on the many rides I have been with her.  We always crossed it soon after mounting up and then out to the desert, crossing it again before the beach ride portion of the trip.

The times we've ridden the beach with her, we usually went inland first RIGHT WHERE THAT BIG DEVELOPMENT IS NOW!  That looks pretty blocked off now. Can one still get to the old Catch 22 movie site? Not that there is much left anymore.

I suspect her route is now towards the hills directly behind her location and then doubling back to the playa publica.

Hook being off the grind does not mean no A/C. I heard Marco Cruz did the solar install with battery back up. Her new place is to far back CFE was going to charge her a lot to put in all the poles just to get power back there.
