I am not on the mandatory mailing list (that you must accept to be a member of Viva and receive the donation pitch; cannot opt out until now) but a member just told me that George says he will probably have to close the board.

But, he says there is a way to start a new board. And he is asking for opinions on this in private..........

*(unnecessary comment deleted by me).

Had he been sick for a while?
Was it an emergency of some sort?
I think he would have been about 63 by now?

I can offer nothing more about his death than was reported on Viva.

I talked to him maybe six times over the years and found him to be an individual with a great sense of humor. Cynical, with a great eye towards the ironies in life. I can identify with that completely.

Always rather jovial, really; I never saw him in a bad mood.

But it's not easy for me to separate Alecs from the Viva board and very hard to separate the Viva board from GG. I did not know Alecs in any other context than that board. He would show up at events, on behalf of Viva, and that's how I met him.

Apologies, but I can really offer no other memories of him that were not Viva related. Maybe others will?

I have known Alec for many, many years. He was my neighbor. Sweet man, who always had health issues. His liver finally gave out. He had other medical issues as well, and it was a struggle at times for his health. He will be missed. May you rest in the arms of the Lord Alec. You deserve it.

True for many. It was his life's work for the last 18 years or so, and the means by which many of us were introduced to him.
He was my neighbor for a few years. I recall when he rented the apartment adjacent to his own so that his mother could be closer to him. When we cooked a big meal, we'd often bring him over a plate, which being a single guy, he always accepted :) .
I miss the days when he would putt around San Carlos on his scooter, snapping fotos of everyone and everything. Lots of folks got their introduction to this little beach town through those early fotos and reports.
