I am not in town right now, but have heard that someone is building a block wall across the access road behind San Francisco Beach. Is that REALLY TRUE???!!!!
If so, that is a complete outrage, IMO.
Does anyone have any idea who is building this? Can someone post pics of it?

It is being constructed at the entrance of the new Palapa at SF Beach. This is shady stuff and everyone is saying that not only is it illegal, the government is working to take it (and the Palapa) down. By the way, the first business from los Algodones to move somewhere else is Coralito, they are now located in SF Beach just across the first Circle K.

Thanks for the info on Los Coralitos...we liked that restaurant when it was at Algodones and will definitely visit them in their new location. :)

I'm not recalling Los Coralitos. Was that the reincarnation of Dunas?

Across from the first Circle K is the former Hotel Fiesta, aka Hotel Playa San Carlos. Has Coralitos become the restaurant for this facility, or is it somewhere close by?

Yes, Hook, it replaced Las Dunas for a while on Algodones.

I hope we get an answer to it's new exact location.

Is there anything effective we can do to show our outrage about the wall?

Some form of community show of force?

As of yesterday morning, the wall remained but there was full vehicle access around it.

Anyone know if SF Beach is actually government controlled, or is it owned by someone else?

The terms "owned by someone" and "Government Controlled" are not mutually exclusive based on historic real estate fiascos - who knew you could have gated oceanfront property on Tetakawi?

Beggin ya'll's pardonez moi, but NO ONE can own any beach in Mexico! Article 27 of the Constitution of 1917 is specific and clear on this issue. NO ONE means just that... not even a hotel chain or corporation (a legal person). On the other hand, the person that owns the adjacent deed-able land can apply for a usually get the "concession" to lease the Federal Zone from the Federal Government. The FZ is that land with less than a 70% grade that is 20 meters above mean high tide; BUT in no way can anyone's passage in front of the FZ be impeded by anyone.

What the law says, and reality are two different things. All depends who you are, how much money you have, and who you know. Many people have their own private beaches in Mexico.

If the property is privately owned, the owner pays his prediales, and has an approved building permit for the wall close to the road then this is a dead issue. If the government wants to cut down on the trash on the beach, that would be another justification.

If not, I would still tread lightly. Can you imagine what our reaction would be if some foreign tourists in the states were telling us or city officials what our property rights were?

This was posted to the mayor of Guaymas' facebook page so he knows about it but did not comment on it.
